PA Driver's Practice Test - 3 Tips for Acing Your Behind-the-Wheel Test

For many American adolescents, getting a driver’s license is actually a right of passage. The thrill that comes with being a first-time driver is usually undeniably bracing. Before you get there, however, you have to pass both the knowledge test and the driving test. In Pennsylvania, you also need to complete Form DL-180, which helps to ascertain your physical state.

After passing your PA driver’s practice test several times, here are the tips you need to pass the actual driving test.

Know Your Car Well

Before you begin the test, your DMV examiner will ask you to identify and name some of the essential features of the car. Keep in mind that if you fail to name or demonstrate the operation of four or more features, your test result is likely to be a fail. So, be sure to know the car you’ll drive during the test well.

This will also help you learn how different parts react to avoid aggressive accelerating or braking.

Beware of Your Surroundings

It’s an added advantage to be familiar with your driving environment. Basically, you need to know the local routes, weather conditions, and the types of vehicles that frequent the area. Leveraging your knowledge of the surroundings can help you react accordingly when ambulances come down the road or other situations happen.

Don’t just look at the middle of the road as you won’t notice things happening behind you or on the sides of the road. Watch for shaded areas, especially when changing lanes, and watch for hazards, too.

Stay Focused

Most people are used to drive during beautiful, sunny days, and this can be unfavorable for most would-be drivers. When it starts raining during your driving test, you should be ready to stay focused and confident. You’ll want to know where all the controls are located, including those for lights and windshields.

Don’t be obstructed by the facial expressions of the examiner or whatever they write down. Pay attention to the road the car, and you’re likely to walk out of there a licensed driver.
