It is recommended that you take a practice test before you take the actual written test. There are seven free practice tests for each state. First two tests cover roads signs and the other tests cover road and traffic rules.

If you have completed a defensive driving course, you may be able to save on your auto insurance premiums when buying a new or used car either by financing, leasing or through a bank car loan.

Regulatory traffic signs instruct drivers what they should, or should not do, in certain circumstances. You will be asked to identify roadway signs on the Ohio Permit Test.

Taking The Ohio Driving Permit Test

As in any state, before you can acquire a temporary permit in Ohio you’ll have to pass the BMV’s written driving test. In order to do this, you’ll need to visit your local driver exam station and provide them with proof of ID, residence, birth date, and legal presence. You’ll also be charged $22 for the permit fee. Assuming you pass the written test, this permit will allow you to drive with a licensed adult until you’ve driven enough to qualify for the road test. As such, passing the written test will require a general knowledge of the ways and rules of the road.

The Ohio driving permit test is divided into two sections with 20 questions each. There are 20 questions pertaining to road signs and another 20 regarding motor vehicle laws. You’ll need to answer at least 15 questions in each section correctly in order to pass. Most of these questions will be common knowledge, merely gauging your understanding of how to properly operate a vehicle on the road. Taking a pretest is the best way to ensure that you’ll retain all the essential information that you’ll need. Though it may seem daunting once you’re taking the test itself, having taken the pretest will have prepared you for the exact questions you’ll be up against.

Failing the Ohio driving permit test will require you to wait at least 24 hours before retaking it. Avoiding this result will put you one step closer to getting behind the wheel and eventually acquiring your license. In order to ensure the best chance of success, download one of our practice tests beforehand and give it your best shot.
